ευθυμία • (efthymía) n (plural ευθυμίες)

1. cheerfulness, joy

   Επικρατούσε μια γενική ευθυμία. Όλοι ήταν χαρούμενοι.

   Epikratoúse mia genikí efthymía. Óloi ítan charoúmenoi.

   There was a general cheerfulness [in the air]. Everybody was happy.

2. cheerful mood after drinking wine or spirits

   Το ποτό αυτό είναι πολύ δυνατό· φέρνει ευθυμία.

   To potó aftó eínai polý dynató; férnei efthymía.

   This drink is very strong; it brings mirth (makes you jolly).

   (a saying in rhyme, about drinking a glass of wine, or two...):

   Το πρώτο φέρνει όρεξη, το δεύτερο ευθυμία, το τρίτο ζάλη, φούντωση, το τέταρτο φλυαρία, το πέμπτο αναστάτωση, το έκτο αστυνομία.

   To próto férnei órexi, to déftero efthymía, to tríto záli, foúntosi, to tétarto flyaría, to pémpto anastátosi, to ékto astynomía.

   The first brings appetite; the second, cheerfulness; the third, dizzinnes, flaring; the fourth, gabbling; the fifth, trouble; the sixth, the police.

The plural of such abstract nouns means a situation with the characteristics of the noun.
