Causative reduplication of ἐδάην (edáēn, learned, taught, aorist; not attested in the present) with inchoative suffix -σκω (-skō), from Proto-Hellenic *di-dəs-skō. Compare Sanskrit दिदेष्टि (dideṣṭi), दीक्षयति (dīkṣayati, initiate, teach, prepare, make ready).
