Cognate of Ancient Greek τέρμα (térma, “a goal”) and τέρμων (térmōn, “a border”); perhaps cognate of Sanskrit तरति (tar-, “to overcome”), Latin trāns (“through, across, over”) and possibly intrō (“I enter, I go into”).
