rauschig

German

Etymology

Rausch (intoxication) + -ig.

In the 1830s, Gregor Dankovszky compared the term to Hungarian részeg (drunk),[1] but the similarity must be coincidental, because Gábor Zaicz takes részeg to be of Ugric or Uralic origin.[2]

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈʁaʊ̯ʃɪç/
  • Hyphenation: rau‧schig

Adjective

rauschig (not comparable)

  1. (Austria, now rare) (very) drunk
