Turkish

Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *bɨńĺ(ɨk) (cat). Compare dialectal pışık, Azerbaijani and Turkmen pişik, Tatar

Superficially similar to English puss, Romanian pisică, Arabic بَسّة (bassa), Proto-Algonquian *pešiwa, all seemingly of onomatopoeic origin from the sound used to call a cat.
