mõistma (da-infinitive mõista)

1. to understand

   Ma ei mõista, mida sa üritad rääkida.

   I don't understand what you're trying to say.

2. to guess

   Mõista ära, mis see on.

   Guess what it is.

3. (colloquial) to know, to know how to do something; can

   Kas sa lugeda juba mõistad?

   Can you read already?

4. to sentence (in court)

   Mees mõisteti viieks aastaks vangi.

   The man was sentenced to five years of prison.

5. to be proven (in court)

   Mees mõisteti süüdi.

   The man was proven guilty.

   Mees mõisteti süütuks.

   The man was proven innocent.
