From Proto-Slavic *ogurъkъ, probably via German Gurke, from Byzantine Greek ἀγγούριον (angoúrion, cucumber), from ἄγουρος (ágouros, green, unripe).[1] Cognate with Upper Sorbian kórka, Polish ogórek, Czech okurka, Russian огуре́ц (oguréc), Serbo-Croatian ùgorak.
