Etymology

From Late Latin or Vulgar Latin disligāre, present active infinitive of disligō, from Latin dis- + ligō (tie, bind). Alternatively, an internal formation from dez- + lega. Compare Aromanian dizleg, dizligari, Friulian disleâ, Venetian desligar, Italian slegare, French délier, Catalan deslligar, Spanish and Portuguese desligar, desliar.
