Etymology

From Arabic بَيْنَ + خَلْق (bayna + ḵalq, between the peoples); the latter part is present in Azerbaijani as xalq (people). In Arabic itself, the word دُوَلِيّ (duwaliyy) has become standardised for “international”. Compare Turkish beynelmilel (international) and Persian بین‌المللی (beynalmelali).
