alhaalle

Finnish

Etymology

  • From the same Uralic root *ala as Estonian all and Hungarian alatt (the superessive singular of ala-).

Adverb

alhaalle

  1. expresses movement to a spatially lower position
    1. down below, below
    2. down there/here
    3. to the bottom (part of something)

Usage notes

Alhaalle is rather rarely used, probably because it can normally be replaced with shorter alas or alle.

Inflection

As an adverb, alhaalle is not inflected in the ordinary sense of the word. However, it can be regarded as belonging to a goup of adverbs which indicate different aspects of a spatially low location and appear as if they were cases of a common root which has disappeared from the language.
