Proto-Slavic

Etymology

Probably originally a noun with meaning notch, nick, slit, from Proto-Indo-European *peyk- (to carve, to hew). Alternatively, it may be parallel to *pakъ (again), in which case the origin would (probably) be from Proto-Indo-European *h₁pi (by, at) + *-kъ (denotational suffix), similar to *tukъ (here), *takъ (thus), *kakъ (how) from *tu (locative specifier), *tъ (that one), *kъjь (which, who) + *-kъ.

Conjunction

  2. moreover

Derived conjunctions

  • *nъ pьkъ (in spite of)
  • *poslě pьkъ (after that)

    • Bulgarian: пък (pǎk)
