From Proto-Indo-European *ménmn̥, from *men- (“to think”); equivalent to *manyetor + *-man. Cognate with Proto-Italic *memonai (“to remember”), Proto-Germanic *munaną (“to think, remember”), Ancient Greek μέμονα (mémona), Sanskrit मन्मन् (mánman, “thought, wisdom”).
