  • The vast majority of adjectives with this suffix are based off of foreign roots, and are often parallel to foreign terms ending in English -ic or equivalents in other languages (e.g. French -ique, German -ik). As a result, it is often not clear if a given term ending in -и́чный (-íčnyj) was formed within Russian or whether the the term ending in -ic/-ique/-ik was borrowed directly with -ный (-nyj) added.
