Verspreiding en leefgebied
Deze soort komt voor van El Salvador tot noordoostelijk Argentinië en telt 3 ondersoorten:
- Notharchus hyperrhynchus hyperrhynchus: van zuidelijk Mexico tot noordwestelijk Zuid-Amerika.
- Notharchus hyperrhynchus cryptoleucus: El Salvador en noordwestelijk Nicaragua.
- Notharchus hyperrhynchus paraensis: oostelijk Brazilië.
