Tristram Cary
Tristram Ogilvie Cary (Oxford, 14 mei 1925 - Adelaide, 24 april 2008) was een Brits/Australische componist.

Carrière
Cary was de zoon van de auteur Joyce Cary en bezocht de bij de Westminster Abbey aangesloten Westminster School in Londen. Tijdens zijn werk als radartechnicus bij de Royal Navy tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog ontwikkelde hij zijn eigen technieken voor elektronica en geluidstechniek voor de inzet in de elektronische muziek. Hij behoort derhalve tot de pioniers van deze muziekstroming.
Na het einde van de oorlog opende Cary een van de eerste muziekstudio's voor elektronische muziek. Hij werd in het bijzonder bekend voor zijn werk bij talrijke film- en tv-producties. Zo schreef hij tussen 1962 en 1973 de muziek voor veel afleveringen van de succesvolle Britse tv-serie Doctor Who en de muziek voor de film The Ladykillers van Alexander Mackendrick.
Cary was een van de eerste Britse componisten van de Musique concrète en was mede betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van de eerste draagbare synthesizer, de VCS3.
