Biografie
Nick Gravenites beleefde als student vanaf 1956 het bluescircuit in Chicago. Tot zijn vrienden behoorden Charlie Musselwhite, Mike Bloomfield en Paul Butterfield en hij leerde van grootheden als Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy en Howlin' Wolf.
De Paul Butterfield Blues Band nam in 1965 op hun eerste album de Gravenites-song Born in Chicago op. In Bloomfields The Electric Flag was Gravenites vanaf 1967 zanger en songwriter. In 1968 produceerde hij het eerste album van de band Quicksilver Messenger Service. In 1969 bracht hij zijn eerste soloalbum My Labors uit. Van 1969 tot 1972 was Gravenites lid van Big Brother and the Holding Company. Daarna schreef hij soundtracks en werkte hij met muzikanten als Huey Lewis en John Cipollina. Zo nu en dan was hij onderweg met zijn band Nick Gravenites Blues.
