Linfield is de meest succesvolle club in Noord-Ierland en won al 53 titels, de enige club in de wereld die meer landstitels veroverde is Glasgow Rangers. Linfield won ook vijf titels tijdens de oorlogsjaren maar deze zijn niet officieel, als die erbij geteld worden haalt de club Rangers in. Linfield is wel recordhouder van de meeste bekeroverwinningen, het won de nationale beker 43 keer.

De club speelde al vele Europese wedstrijden en haalde de kwartfinale van de Europacup I in 1967 na overwinningen op het Luxemburgse Aris Bonnevoie en het Noorse Vålerenga IF. In de kwartfinale was het Bulgaarse CSKA Sofia echter te sterk voor de club.
