India nam deel aan de Olympische Zomerspelen 1948 in Londen, Engeland. Het was de eerste deelname van India sinds de onafhankelijkheid van het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Voor die tijd kwam het uit onder de naam Brits-Indië. Voor de vierde keer op rij werd het hockeytoernooi gewonnen.
