Diana Rigg

Dame Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg (Doncaster (Yorkshire), 20 juli 1938) is een Brits actrice. Ze heeft van haar tweede maand tot haar achtste jaar in India gewoond.

Ze werd vooral bekend door haar rol als Emma Peel in de televisieserie De Wrekers (The Avengers, 1965 - 1967) en haar rol als Bondgirl contessa Tracy di Vicenzo in de Bond-film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).

Ze is in juni 1994 geridderd vanwege haar vele bijdragen aan theater en film.

Eind jaren 90 verscheen er een artikel in de Nederlandse krant "Algemeen Dagblad" waarin ze betiteld werd als de "grootmoeder van de Girl Power", met name dankzij haar rol als de heldhaftige en charmante Emma Peel. Rigg heeft overigens van deze rol afstand genomen, en op beurzen en andere bijeenkomsten van "Wrekers"-fans is zij steevast de grote afwezige.

In 2013 verscheen ze voor het eerst in de HBO-serie "Game of Thrones" als Lady Olenna Tyrell. Ze speelt er meesterlijk de manipulatieve grootmoeder van Margaery Tyrell. Met deze rol won ze twee prijzen en werd ze driemaal genomineerd voor een Emmy Award.

Familie

Diana Rigg was getrouwd met Menahem Gueffen (van juli 1973 tot september 1976) en Archibald Stirling (van maart 1982 tot 1990), een toneelproducer. Met Archie Stirling heeft ze samen een dochter: de actrice Rachael Atlanta Stirling, geboren in 1977.
