Cryptopygus
Cryptopygus is een geslacht van springstaarten (Collembola) uit de familie van de Isotomidae. De wetenschappelijke naam werd gepubliceerd in 1902 door Victor Willem, in zijn studie van de springstaarten verzameld tijdens de Belgische Antarctische expeditie onder leiding van Adrien de Gerlache in 1897-1899.[1]

Willem beschreef tevens een nieuwe soort in dit geslacht, Cryptopygus antarcticus. Deze werd ontdekt aan de kust van de Gerlachestraat, waar ze gevonden werd onder kleine stenen, lege schelpen, en tussen mossen en korstmossen. De diertjes zijn ongeveer 1,5 mm lang en bijna zwart, vanwege een diepblauw pigment.
