Yury Gazinsky

Yury Aleksandrovich Gazinsky (Russian: Юрий Александрович Газинский, IPA: [ˈjʉrʲɪj ɐlʲɪˈksandrəvʲɪtɕ gɐˈzʲinskʲɪj]; born 20 July 1989) is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Krasnodar and the Russia national team.[2]

Club career

In May 2013, Gazinsky signed for FC Krasnodar on a three-year contract.[3]

International career

He was called up to the Russia national football team in August 2015 for the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers against Sweden and against Liechtenstein.[4] He made his debut for the team on 31 August 2016 in a friendly against Turkey.

On 11 May 2018, he was included in Russia's extended 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.[5] On 3 June 2018, he was included in the finalized World Cup squad.[6] On 14 June 2018, he scored the first goal of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the 12th minute of the opening match against Saudi Arabia.[7] Russia went on to win the match 5–0.[8] He stayed on the bench in the Round of 16 defeat of Spain before appearing as a substitute in the quarterfinal shoot-out loss to Croatia.
