Workers' Party of Turkey (2017)

Workers' Party of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye İşçi Partisi, TİP) is a Marxist-Leninist[2] political party in Turkey. The party has been founded as a consequence of internal strife of two rival factions within the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP). The faction led by former chairman Erkan Baş firstly adopted the name People's Communist Party of Turkey in 2014 and after three years in 2017 this faction decided to establish TİP.

History

The party's foundation declaration was signed by 146 people, including Erkan Baş, Barış Atay, Tuncay Çelen, Metin Çulhaoğlu, past TİP and past TKP members, various representatives from mass organizations and trade unions, workers, students, and academics.[3][4]

Elections

In the 2018 Turkish general election, the party collaborated with the People's Democratic Party.[5] It won 2 seats in that election.
