Woodlands South MRT station

Woodlands South MRT station (TE3) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson–East Coast line in Woodlands, Singapore, located underneath Woodlands Avenue 1 at the junction with Woodlands Drive 16 and Woodlands Drive 17. It is located directly under Christ Church Secondary School and located near ACE The Place Community Club and Yusof Ishak Mosque as well as Singapore Sports School.[3]

Not to be confused with Woodlands MRT station or Woodlands North MRT station.

Location

The tracks between this station and Springleaf station are the longest on the Thomson–East Coast line.

The station will serve as the current southern terminus of the Thomson–East Coast line until the second phase opens, which is planned for opening in Late 2020, where Caldecott station would serve as the southern terminus instead.

The station is also the nearest station to the Mandai Depot and the Seletar Expressway (SLE).

This station was first announced by then Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew on 29 August 2012.[4]

On 15 August 2014, LTA announced that Woodlands South station would be part of the proposed Thomson East-Coast line (TEL). The station will be constructed as part of Phase 1, consisting of 3 stations between Woodlands North and Woodlands South, and is expected to be completed in 2019.[5][6]

The Contract T205 for the design and construction of Woodlands South Station was awarded to Woh Hup (Private) Limited at a sum of S$144 million on August 2013. Construction started in 2013, with completion in 2019.[7]

The Contract T206 for the construction of bored tunnels between Woodlands Station, Woodlands South and Mandai Depot was awarded to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd at a sum of S$421 million on 18 October 2013. Construction started in 2014, and completed in 2020.[8] The contract includes the construction of twin bored tunnels between Woodlands Station and Woodlands South, twin bored tunnels between Woodlands South and crossover tunnels to Mandai Depot, as well as a single bored tunnel between Woodlands Station and Mandai Depot.

'Woodlands South', 'Champions Way' and 'Woodgrove' were proposed as names for the station and following a public poll, officially named Woodlands South on 27 June 2014.[2]

The station was officially opened on 31 January 2020.[9][10]
