Marina South MRT station

Marina South MRT station (TE21) is a future underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson-East Coast Line situated along the boundary of the planning areas of Straits View and Marina South, Singapore. It will be located near Marina South Pier and is within walking distance to Marina South Pier station.[1] The possible hub at Marina South will be built there, together with ActiveSG Marina South Swimming Pool.

Not to be confused with Marina South Pier MRT station or Marina Bay MRT station.

History

This station was first announced on 29 August 2012.[2]

On 15 August 2014, LTA announced that Marina South station would be part of the proposed Thomson East-Coast line (TEL). The station will be constructed as part of Phase 3, consisting of 13 stations between Mount Pleasant and Gardens by the Bay, and is expected to be completed in 2021.[3][4]

The Contract T227 for the design and construction of Marina South Station and associated tunnels was awarded to Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. (Singapore Branch) – Sembcorp Design and Construction Pte Ltd Joint Venture at a sum of S$488 million on July 2014. Construction will start in 2014, with completion in 2021.[5]

In the station naming exercise, "Marina South", "Marina Boulevard" and "Straits View" were shortlisted. In the end, Marina South was selected as the final name.[6]
