Valašské Meziříčí

Valašské Meziříčí (Czech pronunciation: [ˈvalaʃskɛː ˈmɛzɪr̝iːtʃiː]; German: Wallachisch Meseritsch), colloquially Valmez, is a town in the Zlín Region, the Czech Republic. The town has around 22,000 inhabitants.

History

The first mention of Valašské Meziříčí dates from the 13th century. The name comes from "mezi-říčí" (being between rivers); the centre is in the wedge of the confluencing Rožnovská Bečva and Vsetínská Bečva rivers. The adjective specifies that this town is located in Moravian Wallachia.
