Background

History

UIC College Prep, the LSV Campus of the Noble Network of Charter Schools was founded in 2008. It is named in honor of LSV Asset Management and their support of Noble's expansion. A close partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago lends its name to the school.

Location

UIC College Prep is in a neighborhood in a building leased from the Chicago Public Schools. Before UICCP opened, the building served as Gladstone Elementary school which closed in 2007.

Ratings

As of 2018, UIC College Prep is rated highly by several city- and state-wide organizations.

According to CPS’ SQRP ratings, 89% of Noble's campuses were ranked 1 or 1+ (16 of 18), and Noble's average SQRP rating is 4.13 - which equates to a level 1+ average rating overall.

Noble schools also fared well when looking at the SAT, which is a key component for college admissions. When compared with all Chicago public high schools (including those with selective admission requirements), Noble's open enrollment public schools earned all 12 of the top spots for SAT growth.

When delineated further by demographics, Noble schools occupy all eight top spots for Hispanic SAT growth, and Noble students earned nine of the top ten spots for African American SAT growth.

SQRP ratings measure a number of factors to assess school quality including graduation rates, attendance, college enrollment, college persistence, parent and school community surveys, and test score growth among other data points.

UIC College Prep takes the top spot for African American and the top spot for Hispanic cohort growth on the SAT.[3]

Partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago

UIC College Prep High School, the LSV Campus of the Noble Street Charter School (UICCP), was established in partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago and is one of the campuses of the Noble Network of Charter Schools, a highly regarded local charter school network. The school engages students in academic coursework, and is ranked as the highest performing non-selective high school in the city of Chicago. The UICCP-UIC partnership represents an exceptional model of school-university collaboration.

UIC's partnership with UICCP is governed by a formal memorandum of understanding. The high school's day-to-day operations are the responsibility of UICCP and Noble Network staff. UIC's major responsibility is to coordinate support from UIC faculty and staff for UICCP's academic and co-curricular programs and to support student success initiatives for both current UICCP students and UICCP graduates who have matriculated to UIC.[4]

Distinguished Teacher Program

In May 2019, The Noble Network of Charter Schools announced the first 20 recipients of its newly created Distinguished Teacher program.[5] The purpose of the Distinguished Teacher program is to identify, recognize, and reward a select group of Noble teachers who have achieved exceptional results for students at Noble for at least three years and during that time have exemplified the five key questions laid out in the Distinguished Teacher framework.[6] Prior to being selected, candidates participated in a rigorous application process that began in January 2019, where they first submitted their written narratives along with a portfolio that included comprehensive data. Finalists then participated in classroom observations and debriefs, student surveys, a panel interview, and reference checks.[5][7] Among other benefits, those who are selected to be a Distinguished Teacher receive an annual bonus of $10,000, will help facilitate professional development experiences across the Noble Network as well as participate in the selection of future Distinguished Teachers.[5]

Three teachers from UIC College Prep were chosen to be 2018-2019 Distinguished Teachers: Amy Couwenhoven - Learning Specialist - English and Math;

Matthew Insalaco - Math teacher; and Nicholas Acosta - English teacher.[5]
