NCPAD

The National Center on Physical Activity and Disability, usually abbreviated NCPAD, is an information center concerned with physical activity and disability. It is a part of the Department of Disability and Human Development in the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. It is supported by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The mission of the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability (NCPAD) is to promote substantial health benefits that can be gained from participating in regular physical activity.

Physical Activity can not only be a fun opportunity for a child with special needs or disability, but can also help them to grow by promoting development of social, emotional, and physical abilities. Social development can be encouraged through interactions with others and the opportunity to observe and ask questions. Advances in emotional development can be done through teaching the child how to cope with winning and losing scenarios. Physical development nurtures proper muscle maintenance and aids in weight management that will benefit the child later in life. All of these skills are crucial for a special needs or disabled child, as it actively encourages important aptitude that will help them progress in adulthood.
