Tvarožná (Brno-Country District)

Tvarožná (German: Bosenitz) is a village in Brno-Country District, Czech Republic; about 10 km east of Brno. A brook flows through the village. There are also two ponds.

History

The oldest written reference is from the year 1288.

The village is famous for the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805 (The Battle of the Three Emperors). A hill near the village, called Santon, was a strategic location for Napoleon's army, being occupied by the French general Clapared and his 17th regiment.

Places of interest

  • Santon is a view-point and a tourist attraction. There is a chapel on top of the hill.
  • Saint Nicholas church, built in 1880–1881.
  • The village contains a replica of the French canon Gribeauval.
