Teens' love
Teens' love (ティーンズラブ), also abbreviated to TL, is a genre of fictional media in Japan, mostly erotica, created by and marketed towards women. Teens love is present in a variety of media, including anime,[1] manga,[2] and light novels. Teens' love content has a core demographic of women in their older teens to adults.
Themes
Teens' love is characterized by a romance depicting love and sex as synonymous.[3] The story usually focuses on a female protagonist. It differs from the ladies' comics genre in that ladies' comics tend to be dramatic and include dark story elements such as rape, incest, and enjo kōsai, and while earlier teens' love works consisted of similar elements, modern stories usually avoid those topics.[4] Teens' love content is also marketed towards a younger audience.[5] In 2007, several manga magazines with teens' love content were declared "harmful to youth" by the Osaka Prefectural Government and were restricted from being sold to people under 18 years old.[6]
