Steven D. Smith

Steven "Steve" Smith (born June 23, 1964) is a New Hampshire politician and a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives representing Sullivan County District 11, which includes the towns of Acworth, Charlestown, Goshen, Langdon, Lempster, and Washington. He is a Realtor® by profession, and also runs a slot car business and racing facility.[1][2]

Smith was first elected in 2010, and was re-elected in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Prior to the 2010 legislative redistricting, he represented the old Sullivan County District 5. His top legislative priorities include eliminating waste and looking for new millennium solutions to the public transportation problem. In 2012 he introduced legislation to the NH House of Representatives that would have created a committee to study the feasibility of Personal Rapid Transit in the state.[3] The measure failed.

In 2016, Rep. Smith was one of ten Legislators from across the country chosen to participate in the Council of State Governments Transportation Policy Academy.[4]

In 2015, NH Governor Margaret Hassan appointed Rep. Smith to be the NH House member of the NH Governor's Interagency Council on Homelessness.

In 2014, Rep. Smith was appointed Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, and previously served on the Labor, Industrial, and Rehabilitative Services Committee.[1]

Smith is a classic car enthusiast and is a current member of the SEMA Legislative Caucus.[5]

Smith has been active in two presidential primary campaigns, most notably being a key player and regional coordinator for the FredHeads movement (a grassroots effort to elect Senator Fred Thompson).
