Star City, Indiana

Star City was originally called Scarboro, and under the latter name was laid out in 1859.[5] The original name proved to be unpopular, and the name was changed to Star City in 1861 by a vote of the citizens.[5]

A post office has been in operation at Star City since 1862.[6]

Star City is located at 40°58′21″N 86°33′25″W (40.972393, -86.556988).[7]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km²), all land.

At the 2000 census there were 377 people, 133 households, and 106 families in the CDP. The population density was 357.1 people per square mile (137.3/km²). There were 138 housing units at an average density of 130.7/sq mi (50.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 99.20% White, 0.27% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.33%.[2]

Of the 133 households 39.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.7% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.3% were non-families. 17.3% of households were one person and 5.3% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.20.

The age distribution was 30.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% 65 or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.

The median household income was $39,432 and the median family income was $40,089. Males had a median income of $24,028 versus $20,302 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,168. None of the population or families were below the poverty line.
