Prior to 1945 it was in Germany. There used to be a Bismarck tower on the village's highest point, Prudelberg Hill, erected in 1901 when the area was part of Germany. The monument was destroyed after 1945; its base has been preserved. After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration and ethnically cleansed according to the post-war Potsdam Agreement. The native German populace was expelled and replaced with Poles. The herbal bitter Echt Stonsdorfer, still produced in Germany, originated in this village.
