History

"Thanks to the work of a group of visionary pioneers in 1973-74, the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County opened its doors. From its beginning as a school of 20 students and seven faculty members, our Schechter has grown to a vibrant center of Jewish learning comprising 400-plus students and more than 90 faculty and staff members. Our facilities have also grown, from our initial home in the Teaneck Jewish Center, to our exceptional 5.5 acre campus, the Frank Sadinoff Educational Center in New Milford.

What started as the dream of a few has become a wonderful reality for the many students, parents, and faculty who have been, and are now, fortunate enough to call the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County “our school community.” [2]

Campus

The school has an indoor basketball court with stage, fitness center, library, Holocaust Resource Room, Innovation lab with 3D printers, art and music rooms, computer lab, Beit Midrash, and kosher cafeteria. The campus also includes outdoor basketball courts, AstroTurf soccer fields, Ga-ga pit, vegetable gardens and monarch butterfly sanctuary. [3]

International Baccalaureate and Innovation Lab

In 2018, the school earned the status of being an International Baccalaureate World School for the Middle Years Program.[4] Becoming an IB school is an often rigorous process, and not many educational facilities can qualify. As of 2018, SSBC is the only Jewish school in the Northeast United States to have gained the IB status.[5][6]
