San Nazzaro Sesia borders the following municipalities: Albano Vercellese, Biandrate, Casalbeltrame, Casalvolone, Greggio, Oldenico, Recetto, and Villata. It is home to the Abbey of San Nazzaro e Celso, one of the most important Romanesque complexes in Piedmont. From 1429 to 1467 the Abbot was Antonio Barbavara who made many improvements to the Abbey and surrounding lands. Mark Knowles argues that Antonio Barbavara was the author of the world famous Voynich manuscript.
