Career

Born in Beverley,[1] Cosgrove grew up in Cheshire and attended Knutsford High School.[3] He began his youth career at Everton before signing scholarship forms with Wigan Athletic in 2013. He had spells on loan at Barrow,[4] Chorley,[5] and North Ferriby United,[6] but made only one first team appearance for Wigan as a late substitute in the EFL Cup against Oldham Athletic in August 2016. After being released by the club, he moved to Carlisle United in August 2017.[7] He made eight league appearances for Carlisle, and scored his first senior goal on 13 January 2018 in a 1–0 win against Crewe Alexandra.[8]

On 31 January 2018, he joined Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen.[9][10] He was sent off on his debut for Aberdeen, a 2–0 defeat against Celtic on 25 February.[11] After scoring a number of goals in December 2018, he was awarded Scottish Premiership player of the month.[12] In January 2019, Cosgrove signed a contract extension until 2022 with the Dons.[13]

In August 2019 his form was praised by Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes.[14] Later that month he was linked in Italian media with a transfer to Lazio,[15] which was denied by Aberdeen.[16] In December 2019 Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack confirmed the club had received no offers or approaches from other clubs for Cosgrove or teammate Scott McKenna.[17]
