Reggello

Reggello is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Florence in the Italian region of Tuscany, located about 25 kilometres (16 miles) southeast of Florence. The municipality borders with Castel San Niccolò, Castelfranco Piandiscò, Figline e Incisa Valdarno, Montemignaio, Pelago, and Rignano sull'Arno.

History

In 1966, seven people were killed and a neighborhood of Reggello was destroyed by a landslide triggered by the same rains that also flooded Florence.

Main sights

Reggello is home to the Abbey of Vallombrosa, located in the Vallombrosa forest, 10 km (6 mi) from the town centre.

Another sight is the Castle of Sammezzano, located near Leccio, that is a palazzo in Moorish Revival architectural style.

Sport

The local football team is called S.S. Resco Reggello, now playing in Promozione division.
