PNR 8100 class

The PNR 8100 class,[3] also known as INKA DMUs,[4] is a class of diesel multiple units (DMUs) ordered by the Philippine National Railways. It entered service in February 2020.

Design

The trains were manufactured by the Indonesian firm PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero), also known as INKA. The design of the 8100 class is the same as the 8000 class DMUs deployed earlier with three double-leaf sliding doors per side and longitudinal seats, with the exception of additional intermediate coaches; 8100 classes comprises of 4 units unlike the earlier 8000 units with just 3.

Purchase

The Philippine National Railways received a budget through the 2018 General Appropriations Act for the purchase of trains.[5] On May 28, 2018, four sets of four-car trains were ordered together with three CC300 locomotives and fifteen passenger coaches worth Php 2.5 billion (US$ 47.4 million).[6][7][8]

On March 28, 2020, the second batch of two train sets consisting 8 vehicles have been shipped and arrived in the country. It is expected to enter revenue service when PNR resumes operations within the 2nd Quarter of 2020.

Operations

The first batch of 8100 class DMUs were unveiled last February 14, 2020 at Tutuban station. These will undergo 150-hour RAMS validation before it enters revenue service.[3]

The first two train sets are expected to enter revenue service in early 2020, while the delivery of another two train sets, along with 3 CC300 locomotives and 15 coaches are set on the 2nd quarter of 2020.[1]

Features

The DMU train sets has a obstacle door detector that keeps passengers from being caught in between doors with Emergency door release that opens the door manually in case of emergency.

The trains are equipped with polycarbonate glass windows that can withstand damages from stoning, air-conditioning units suitable for the local tropical climate, and an emergency intercom equipped with two way communication.
