This station is the representative station of Oyama City, the second largest city in Tochigi Prefecture, and the terminal station next to Utsunomiya Station in the prefecture.

Transportation characteristics at this station

  • This station is a junction where the Tohoku Shinkansen, the conventional Utsunomiya Line (Tohoku Main Line), the Mito Line, and the Ryomo Line enter, and the line extends to the north, south, east and west.
  • Tohoku Shinkansen upbound (for Omiya, Ueno & Tokyo)
    • During the day, one stop every hour, "Yamabiko"(from Sendai to Tokyo) or "Nasuno"(from Koriyama or Nasushio Nuclear Power Station-Tokyo) alternately stops every two hours. In the early morning, "Nasuno", which departs from the station, is also set .
  • Tohoku Shinkansen downbound (Utsunomiya, Nasushiobara, Kōriyama, Fukushima and Sendai )
    • During the day, one stop every hour, "Yamabiko" (for Sendai) or "Nasuno" (for Nasushiobara or Koriyama), alternately stops every two hours. If you use Sendai-Morioka from this station, you need to transfer at Utsunomiya, Kōriyama or Sendai. If you use Morioka and north, you need to transfer at Sendai.
  • Utsunomiya Line (Tohoku Main Line)
    • Upbound (Koga, Omiya / Ueno, Tokyo / Ikebukuro, Shinjuku & Yokohama)
    • During the day, approximately one fast train (via Shinjuku-bound for Zushi) and four regular trains (via Ueno-bound for the Tokaido Line, two bound for Ueno, one bound for Shinjuku-bound for Zushi-one hour) Stop .
  • Utsunomiya Line (Tohoku Main Line) going down (for Koganei, Ishibashi, Utsunomiya , Yaita & Kuroiso )
    • During the day, one high-speed train (for Utsunomiya, stop at each station from this station) and four ordinary trains (one for Koganei, three for Utsunomiya) stop approximately every hour.
  • Mito Line going down (for Yūki, Shimodate, Iwase, Kasama & Tomobe)
    • During the day, approximately one regular train (for Tomobe) arrives and departs approximately every hour. Some morning and evening trains also take the section train bound for Shimodate and the Joban Line (for Mito and Katsuta) from Tomobe.
  • Ryomo Line going down (for Tochigi, Sano, Ashikaga, Kiryu, Isesaki, Maebashi & Shin-Maebashi )
    • During the day, one ordinary train (bound for Takasaki) arrives and departs approximately every hour. All trains, except two for Kiryu at night, enter Takasaki from Shin-Maebashi via the Joetsu Line.

History

  • July 16, 1885: The station opens on what later becomes the Tohoku Main Line.[1]
  • May 22, 1888: The Ryōmō Line opens.
  • January 16, 1889: The Mito Line opens.
  • June 23, 1982: The Tohoku Shinkansen opens.
