Geography

Nirmali is located at 26.32°N 86.58°E / 26.32; 86.58.[1] It has an average elevation of 59 metres (193 feet). It has an area of 5.3 km².[2] It Is Surrounded with RING DAM. It is near to the Kosi River. On 18 August 2008, the Kosi river picked up an old channel it had abandoned over 100 years previously near the border with Nepal and India.

Demographics

As of 2011 Nirmali had a population of 20,173.[3] Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Nirmali has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 68%, and female literacy is 49%. In Nirmali, 17.6% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Darbhanga Airport is under construction. Flight service from Darbhanga Airport to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities, is likely to start from December, 2019.

Notable events

President special train has been used twice in Indian history. The first was used by Dr. Rajendra Prasad to come from Patna to Nirmali.

Nirmali, a small town in the arms of two well known rivers, Koshi & Balaan. The famous leader Jayaprakash Narayan took refuge here after breaking away from Hanuman Nagar Jail (Nepal) during the freedom struggle. The town has been famous for its extensive rice production.

Prime MInister of India Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Who came in 2002 for foundation stone of Kosi Mahasetu Bridge. In 2002, Maithili was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which allows it to be used in education, government, and other official contexts. It is recognized as one of the largest languages in India and is the second most widely used language in Nepal. Nirmali College, Nirmali was established in 10 August 1964.

During the floods in 1948, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1958, 1987, 2004, 2008 etc., it has severely affected the convex bends of western bank at several places like NIMALI
