Newton Township is a township in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,846 at the 2010 census.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 22.7 square miles (58.8 km²), of which, 22.4 square miles (58.1 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (1.19%) is water.

At the 2010 census there were 2,846 people in 982 households, including 772 families, in the township. The population density was 127 people per square mile (49/km²). There were 1,043 housing units at an average density of 46.6/sq mi (18.2/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.2% White, 0.5% African American, 0.01% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9%.[4]
There were 919 households, 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.8% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% were non-families. 17.6% of households were made up of individuals, and 8.3% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.05.
The age distribution was 21.6% under the age of 18, 63.7% from 18 to 64, and 14.7% 65 or older. The median age was 44.7 years.
The median household income was $66,940 and the median family income was $78,580. Males had a median income of $53,681 versus $38,462 for females. The per capita income for the township was $35,264. About 1.8% of families and 5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.8% of those under age 18 and 6.9% of those age 65 or over.
