Namkhana railway station

Namkhana railway station is a Kolkata Suburban Railway terminal stations on the Sealdah–Namkhana line of Sealdah railway division. It is under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways. The station is situated at Narayanpur, Namkhana, South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal.[1][2]

History

The Eastern Bengal Railway constructed a 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) wide Broad Gauge Railway from Sealdah to Baruipur in 1882. The Jaynagar Majilpur line was constructed by Eastern Bengal Railway in 1882. It was extended up to Lakshmikantapur railway station in 1928.[3] Thereafter the line was extended up to Kakdwip railway station in 2001 and up to Namkhana in 2006.[4] Baruipur to Lakshmikantapur line was electrified in 1965-66 and Lakshmikantapur to Kakdwip railway station in 1992-2000 and Kakdwip to Namkhana railway station in 2005–06.[5]
