The album is the first of two compilation albums by Braid after their disbandment in 1999, the second being Movie Music, Vol. 2, released on the same day. Movie Music, Vol. 1 contains 17 singles and split album tracks released from 1993 to 1999, featuring songs from their studio albums Frankie Welfare Boy Age Five and Frame and Canvas, as well as from EP's and several standalone songs.
