In March 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the company’s Investigational New Drug (IND) application for a type 2 diabetes therapeutic candidate, MLR-1023.[1] In 2013, the company reported a licensing partnership with Bukwang Pharmaceutical Company LTD[2] and the initiation of clinical trials in March 2015.[3] In June 2016, the company reported positive results from their Phase 2a clinical study in diabetic subjects.[4]

History

Melior Discovery was co-founded in 2005 by Dr. Andrew Reaume (President and CEO) and Dr. Michael Saporito (Vice President of Research).[5] Its investors include Cammeby’s Capital Group, VenturEast, Osage Ventures, Mid-Atlantic Angel Group, and BioAdvance.[6]
