Mattia Binotto

Mattia Binotto (born 3 November 1969 in Lausanne), is an Italian engineer and team principal of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One.[1] He was appointed into the role on 7 January 2019, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene.[2]

Career

Binotto obtained degrees in Vehicle Engineering at a bachelors' level at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1994 and later a Master in Motor Vehicle Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. In 1995 he joined Scuderia Ferrari within the engine department. He was part of the team during the successful early 2000s, being of similar age as then lead driver Michael Schumacher, who also joined Ferrari at a similar time. In 2013 he became responsible for the engine department, before on 27 July 2016 he was appointed Chief Technical Officer of Ferrari, replacing James Allison[3] During Binotto's two years as a technical director, Ferrari once more competed for regular race wins. In 2019 he was promoted Team Principal amid Maurizio Arrivabene leaving the team.[4]
