Mathabhanga subdivision

Mathabhanga subdivision is a subdivision of the Cooch Behar district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Mathabhanga municipality and three community development blocks: Sitalkuchi, MathabhangaI and MathabhangaII. The three blocks contain 28 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Mathabhanga.

Area

Apart from the Mathabhanga municipality, the subdivision contains rural areas of 28 gram panchayats under three community development blocks: Sitalkuchi, MathabhangaI and MathabhangaII.[1] There is no urban area under these three blocks.[2]

Blocks

Sitalkuchi block

Rural area under Sitalkuchi block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Barokaimari, Chhotosalbari, Gosairhat, Lalbazar, Bhawerthana, Golenowhati, Khalisamari and Sitalkuchi.[1] Sitalkuchi police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Sitalkuchi.[4]

MathabhangaI block

Rural area under MathabhangaI block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Bairagirhat, HazrahatII, Kursamari, Shikarpur, Gopalpur, Jorpatki, Nayarhat, HazrahatI, Kedarhat and Pachagarh.[1] Mathabhanga and Ghoksadanga police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Mathabhanga.[4]

MathabhangaII block

Rural area under MathabhangaII block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. AngarkataPardubi, Ghoksardanga, NishiganjII, Unishbisha, Barasoulmari, Latapota, Premerdanga, Fulbari, NishiganjI and Ruidanga.[1] Mathabhanga and Ghoksadanga police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Bhogmara.[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in the West Bengal, the Mathabhanga municipality, MathabhangaII block and HazrahatI, HazrahatII and Pachagarh gram panchayats of MathabhangaI block together will constitute the Mathabhanga assembly constituency of West Bengal. The other seven gram panchayats of MathabhangaI block, viz. Bairagirhat, Kursamari, Shikarpur, Gopalpur, Jorpatki, Nayarhat and Kedarhat will form the Sitalkuchi assembly constituency along with the whole area under Sitalkuchi block. Both the constituencies will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates. Both constituencies will be part of Cooch Behar (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.[5]
