List of songs recorded by Bruno Mars
American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars has recorded songs for three studio albums, one EP and three soundtrack albums. He has provided uncredited and background vocals for songs recorded by other artists, as well as featured on duets.
After an unsuccessful contract with Motown Records and a fruitless conversation with will.i.am's management,[1][2] Mars started writing tracks for several artists, co-founding the production team The Smeezingtons with fellow American songwriters Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine.[3] Some of their credits include Flo-Rida's "Right Round" (2009), Cee-Lo Green's "Fuck You" (2010), as well as songs for the Sugababes, among others.[1][4][5] Mars signed with Atlantic Records in 2009 before being featured and composing B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" (2009) and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" (2010). He released his first EP, It's Better If You Don't Understand, the following year.[6][7]
The debut EP was followed by his successful first album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010). All of the songs on his debut album were written by The Smeezingtons.[8] From then on he continued to released successful albums, the Grammy Award winners Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) and 24K Magic (2016).[9] Mars has collaborated with a number of songwriters throughout his career, with many of the songs reaching number one on the record charts around the world, including "Nothin' on You", "Just the Way You Are", "Grenade", "The Lazy Song", "Locked Out of Heaven", "Uptown Funk" and "24K Magic".
Mars has also recorded songs for film soundtracks, starting in 2011 with the release of "It Will Rain", which was used as the theme tune to the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011), and "Young, Wild & Free" by Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Mars as a guest vocalist, for the 2011 film Mac & Devin Go to High School.[10][11] He soon followed it with a song for his major film role, Rio 2 (2014), by collaborating with Lawrence and composer John Powell to record the track "Welcome Back".[12] Mars' recorded music encompassed providing background vocals for other artists like Alicia Keys, Flo Rida, Akon and Matisyahu. He has collaborated with several singers and musicians including Andrew Wyatt, Diplo, Emile Haynie, Jeff Bhasker and Mark Ronson.
