The series is a realistic take on the romantic relationship between Dev and Sonakshi. The show mainly revolves around their love story and its impact upon the unique, close bond between Dev and his mother, while exploring other family relationships.[3]

In January 2017, a seven-year leap was introduced.[4] Dev was shown to have transformed into a self-loving and carefree man, while Sonakshi had become a mature businesswoman and a single mother.[5]

The show originally ended in 24 August 2017. But on 31 August 2017, the channel announced that because of viewer demand the show would air extra episodes of Dev and Sonakshi's bonding with their newborn in mid-September 2017.[6]

Plot

Set in Delhi, it traces the story of two individuals namely Devrath "Dev" Dixit and Sonakshi "Sona" Bose.

Serious and reserved, Dev is a workaholic devoted to his family who lived with them in poverty. His life was spent building an empire and giving his family a better life. Bubbly, caring and bold, Sona is a doctor part of her Bengali.

Sona is hired as Dev's mother Ishwari's consulting nutritionist to check her diet and health, and forms a bond with them who are indifferent to her at first. Later, she meets with a grave accident. Dev saves and cares for her, and Sona inevitably falls in love with him.

Being very private, Dev finds a great friend in Sona and gradually too falls in love with her. His alliance gets fixed with Natasha, a rich businesswoman. Sona is left heartbroken. Elsewhere Dev realizes that he loves her, confesses it to her and breaks up with Natasha.

As Dev and Sona's romance follows, Ishwari finds out about them. She reluctantly accepts Sona but soon succumbs to depression, finding it hard to make room for her in Dev's life. Sensing Ishwari's disapproval, Dev splits up with Sona. Hesitant to move on, she gets engaged to Ritwick Sen.

Dev stalks Sona in denial regarding her engagement. He gets depressed and drinks to suppress his misery, falling unconscious. Sona breaks apart and Ritwick willingly steps back to reunite them. Ishwari realises her selfishness and Dev proposes to Sona.

Eventually, the Bose family agrees and Sona marries Dev which starts off happy and romantically. However, due to Ishwari's inner insecurities and other family members' manipulations, misunderstandings lead Dev and Sona to get separated and she moves to Kolkata with her family.

7 years later

Dev has transformed into seemingly selfish, carefree and completely different. Sona is a businesswoman and has a daughter Suhana. She returns to Delhi due to her work with Suhana and the entire Bose family. Inevitably, Sona meets Dev at an award function.

After arguing with Sona several times, Dev realizes that Suhana is his daughter and reveals his identity. Suhana eventually accepts him. Dev and Sona are forced to live together for Suhana's sake. Soon, their closeness makes Ishwari feel the blunder she made. She starts adoring Sona.

Dev realizes he still has feelings for Sona, but agrees to marry another woman. As jealousy hits Sona, she expresses her love for him by proposing him in rain. They hug each other and reunite, and she soon delivers a son named Shubh.

6 months later

Dev and Sona have found it difficult to handle Shubh and Suhana alongside their work simultaneously. Tensed about the upbringing of Shubh and Suhana, Ishwari convinces Sona to quit her job and look after them at home. Well aware of Sona's love for her work, Dev stops working for his kids.

There is a lot of conflict among all family members but Dev and Sona leave no stone unturned to justify their decision. Eventually, their perspective and love for each other is understood by everyone and show ends on a happy note.

After successful completion of one year of the TV series, Yash Patnaik, Chairman and Managing Director of Beyond Dreams Entertainment known for showcasing "simple yet strong story telling" shows stated that he is happy as viewers quickly accepted the "experiment with conviction". He praised the lead actors and went on to say "Shaheer and Erica have excelled as Dev and Sonakshi. As actors both have grown tremendously with this show. Their understanding of character or premise has been outstanding. That's why their chemistry is looking like magic." He further said that the positive way of showing the "simplicity clubbed with beauty" along with a slight gambling with characters, plots and story telling paid off in the end. Thanking Sony TV's management for giving the show one-year extension, he said the credit goes to his wife, Mamta Yash A Patnaik, Producer, Chief Creative Director of Entertainment and co-founder of Beyond Dreams Entertainment for being the actual person behind the show's success.[9]
