KLRK was preceded on 91.9 MHz by KBJC, a station owned and operated by Barton County Community College. The station broadcast from 1969 to the early 1980s, originally with 10 watts, and was run by the school's former department of radio and broadcasting. The junior college closed its broadcasting department during the late 1980s, and the school surrendered its noncommercial broadcasting license.

EMF obtained a new construction permit for 91.9 MHz during the 1990s. The call letters KWBI were acquired by EMF when it purchased the stations owned by Colorado Christian University (formerly the Western Bible Institute), including its KWBI serving Denver, now broadcasting K-Love as KLDV. The station changed its call letters to KLRK on January 16, 2020.
