J. T. Ginn

John Thomas Ginn (born May 20, 1999) is an American college baseball pitcher for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Ginn was drafted by the New York Mets in the second round of the 2020 MLB draft.[1]

Career

Ginn graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, Mississippi. In 2017, as a junior, he batted .482 with 16 home runs.[2] That summer, he pitched in the 2017 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley Field.[3] As a senior, he batted .419 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs along with pitching to a 5-1 record and 0.36 ERA[4] and was named the Mississippi Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.[5] He signed to play college baseball at Mississippi State.[6]

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Ginn with the 30th overall selection of the 2018 MLB draft.[7] On July 5, 2018, he announced that he was going to honor his commitment to Mississippi State and that he would not be signing with the Dodgers.[8][9] In 2019, his freshman year at Mississippi State, he went 8-4 with a 3.36 ERA over 16 starts, striking out 103 over eighty innings.[10] He was named the 2019 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year.[11]

Ginn was selected 52nd overall by the New York Mets in the 2020 MLB draft.[12]
