Plot

Two centuries ago, Inuyasha's father saves his wife, Lady Izayoi, from Takemaru, a samurai who had yearned for her. Izayoi and her newborn half-demon son who is named Inuyasha, escape from the mansion, where Inuyasha's father and Takemaru died.

In present-day Tokyo, Kagome's family send a sword to the storehouse. It turns out to be So'unga (owned by Inuyasha's father), breaks the seven hundred-year spell from the spirit of the sheath, Saya. When Inuyasha touches the sword, it possess him and he brings it back to the past. He ends up using a calamity technique. Sesshomaru, sensing the voice, discovers that Inuyasha is possessed by the sword. The two of them fight each other, until Kagome says sit to Inuyasha, causing him to drop the sword and resist the immense power. With the spiritual Beads of Subjugation broken, Saya explains to everyone about Inuyasha's father wielding all three swords. While So'unga is sent to the Bone Eater's Well, it was not used by Inuyasha neither Sesshomaru. So'unga recovers Sesshomaru's arm and revives Takemaru. He occupies the castle and summons the undead army, but Inuyasha and his friends infiltrate it. Before Takemaru dies again, he realizes he loved Izayoi. Sesshomaru uses the Tenseiga to kill the imps. So'unga creates itself a new body and opens a gateway to the netherworld, threatening to end all life on Earth. However, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru combine their attacks with the Tenseiga and Tetsusaiga, causing So'unga and the arm to fall into the pit of hell. Before the soul of Inuyasha's father disappears, he thanks his sons for sealing it away again.

In a post-credits scene, Kagome tricks Inuyasha into wearing the repaired beads once again.

Reception

Rebecca Bundy from Anime News Network gave the movie B+, praising for solid animation, music and the story for exploring more about Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's father that makes it much more than a drawn-out episode meant only for the screen, though points out that some fans would not understand. She also criticized the English dub version of the film, describing the voice actors playing the main cast sound flat and uninspired, but praised the newcomers' performances, particularly Jonathan Holmes as Takemaru.[2]
